At Randlay Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare our students for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, taught and lived out through our school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering student’s understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our PSHE and RE curriculum provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and mutual respect.
Our school makes considerable efforts to ensure students have exposure to a wide range of experiences beyond the school environment during which these concepts are reinforced.
The following examples are some of the many ways we seek to promote British Values at Randlay Primary School:
- Our learners engage well with and enjoy our spiral PSHE curriculum where these values, along with other PSHE topics are explored, embedded and re-visited.
- Our children are organised into four houses whose names are linked with the wider Telford area giving children a sense of where they live.
- Each year children are taught a sense of democracy when voting for representatives for the class within the Eco Council and School Council.
- We hold weekly assemblies where the British values are addressed and re-addressed.
- Our learners also study Religious Education (RE) throughout their school lives, learning about a range of different belief systems and ways of life which gives children opportunities to develop their understanding of the British Values of tolerance and mutual respect.
- We have robust school values that are embedded in school life, these values link very closely to British Values as shown on the image above!
- The school is involved in several charity events throughout the year.
