What is the Sports Premium?
In March 2013 the Government announced a major new funding initiative to support the delivery of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The PE and sport premium will provide over £150 million per year for the academic years 2013/14, through to 2015/16. We are also fortunate that this was extended to 2021/2022. The PE and sport premium is paid directly to primary schools and can only be spent on improving the quality of PE and sport provision for all pupils.
Randlay Primary School & Nursery received £9,362 for the academic year 2016/2017, Since this year the government has recognised what an impact this funding has had on Sport in schools, and has increased the funding even more. In 2021/2022 we anticipate the funding we will receive for Randlay Primary School will be £18,888.
Purpose of the Funding
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding include:
• hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE;
• new or additional Change4Life sport clubs;
• paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport;
• providing cover to release primary teachers for CPD in PE/sport;
• running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games;
• buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport;
• providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.
Accountability
Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections report on how primary schools spend their PE and Sports Premium funding. Additionally, schools must publish details of how they spend their PE and Sports Premium funding on their website. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Randlay Primary School & Nursery
How will we be spending the Sports Premium Funding?
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all children. We encourage collaboration and partnership working to enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.
