At Randlay School and Nursery, our intention is for our pupils to read for pleasure and empowerment. It is our belief that reading is central to the primary curriculum and the sooner that learners engage with the skills of reading fluently, the sooner they develop the independence, confidence and ability to apply their skills across the subject range.
From the beginning of their education with us, it is our aim for our pupils to develop a passion and joy in reading. We prioritise the development of reading skills from day one and engage parents from the very beginning of the reading journey. We engage our school community in a variety of reading initiatives, such as our book bears and vending machine and also invite authors in regularly to share their books and motivate learners through story telling.
It is our intention to create an environment that is rich in vocabulary for reading, ensuring all our learners have the necessary skills and a genuine desire to read. We provide word walls and share appropriate texts and resources across the school to empower our learners to become truly independent readers.
